Liposuction is one of Dr. Assad’s most commonly requested cosmetic surgery procedure. It has become increasingly appealing because of its ability to target problem areas of unwanted fat with accuracy and control. With contemporary techniques and industry advancements, liposuction now requires less recovery time, is less painful, and is much safer than ever before.
Patients interested in liposuction with Dr. Assad should note that the procedure is not a weight loss tool. Ideal liposuction candidates are those at a healthy weight who simply wish to refine and add contour to their appearance by eliminating stubborn pockets of fat that are unresponsive to diet and exercise.
Liposuction is most commonly performed on the abdomen, waist, love handles, hips, saddle bags (outer thighs), inner thighs, knees and neck (under the chin). Dr. Assad utilizes the newest advances in liposuction technology to redefine and sculpt these areas for his patients. In addition to liposuction, Dr. Assad specializes in many other body contouring procedures, including Tummy Tucks, Breast Augmentations, Breast Lifts, Breast Reductions and Mommy Makeovers.
About the Procedure
During liposuction, exceptionally small incisions are made in inconspicuous places around the treatment area. Dr. Assad will then insert a small suction tube called a cannula into the incisions in order to extract unwanted fat cells. They heal very quickly and typically become almost unremarkable.
Dr. Assad’s office is located in Burlington but he performs liposuction procedures in Milton District Hospital’s outpatient surgery center which conforms to the highest credentials. Patients are either placed under local anesthesia with deep sedation or under general anesthesia, administered by an experienced anesthesiologists. The procedure usually takes one to three hours depending on the size of the treatment area and the amount of fat to be removed.
What to Expect After the Surgery
Patients are required to wear compression garments over treated areas. These garments keep patients comfortable, reduce swelling, and encourage healing. Compression garments are worn for several weeks after surgery. Some initial discomfort is common but is easily controlled with oral medication. A self-massaging regimen is recommended in the weeks following a liposuction procedure to help promote healing, diminish swelling, and speed the recovery process. Patients can get back to light exercise a few weeks after treatment. However, patients are advised to wait at least six weeks to return to more vigorous exercises and activities.
Liposuction is a very safe procedure when performed by a properly qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon. The risk of serious complications after liposuction are rare. During your consultation, Dr. Assad will discuss any specific risks with you and determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. As always, you can reduce your risk of complications by closely following Dr. Assad’s pre- and post-operative instructions.
